WANT TO BE A VOLUNTEER?
last updated Friday 6th January 2012 - 21:32Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes. That is to say that there are both, old and young, men and women. Some give many hours a week and some will perhaps give as little as an hour a year, collecting for a charity’s Flag Day. “Every little helps.”
Charities are finding it harder than ever with the current economic climate to maintain the income stream they had. Labour is expensive whilst volunteers provide free and much appreciated help, saving huge amounts of money that is then used to provide services by the charity.
Like any business, a charity needs good managers to run it and a team of trained employees in varying fields. Finance, marketing, fund raising to name but a few. Volunteers provide much needed resources to assist these departments.
So why volunteer?
There are many reasons to volunteer.
A need to give back to the community,
to do something useful,
for personal satisfaction,
believing in the cause,
time to spare,
wanting to meet new people,
wanting to help people,
loneliness,
have friends who volunteer
Knowing where to help or who to help is up to the individual. Read the related articles and experiences of others to help you make a choice.
