Our granddaughters school are holding a coffee morning tomorrow. A letter has gone out to parents requesting cakes. They are also having a Great British Bake Off type event and have chosen chocolate cake. I passed everything on to mum. On Friday all mums had a gentle reminder when school was over. I was reminded that grannies would be welcome to bake a chocolate cake! Our little one told her teacher that I would make one. I have spent this afternoon fretting about this cake. We don't particularly like chocolate cake, so I have just added cocoa powder to my normal victoria sponge. It's looking chocolatey. Now, do I add blackcurrant jam and chocolate buttercream? The sponges are cooling so I still have time to think. I thought that I had finished with school bakes.

I have tried to attach a photo of my cake. I can't seem to make my photo small enough to attach the file.

I love the sound of your cake Trisha. You are never going to be finished are you? I remember being delighted when my youngest left school after 21 years of being involved with school life having 3 kids. Your post has made me think again. Another few years and I’ll be going to see nativity plays etc, or are they a thing of the past? I’m sure the school and McMillan more importantly will appreciate your cake. I have never been to one of those coffee mornings, ever! How come?!!

LL, our granddaughters school still perform the nativity at Christmas. I think that it's the nursery who do it. I will let you know nearer the time. It's the coffee morning tomorrow, all the children have been asked for a 20p donation for the McMillan charity. I will stay and have cake and coffee. What a hard life I lead!
