Our local fire service has been advertising a 'Handyman service'. There have been so many complaints about traders who charge the earth and do a poor job. Targeting the elderly and disabled. It's a blanket charge of £17 an hour regardless of the number of jobs you have. They include moving furniture, gardening, fitting handrails etc. The traders that they use are fully checked along with a CRB check. Our smoke alarm had been making odd noises, so I gave them a call. Two retired fire fighters came, they did a full safety check and fitted a new alarm. No charge for smoke alarms. I'm sure that other areas also offer this. It's useful for people when you don't have any family near by. The only criteria is that you are over 60 or suffer from a disability. It's a good service.
Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.
