As you may know, I have a little VW campervan. We love him dearly but he just isn't big enough for us now that we have Fred. Even though we have a decent sized awning, at night it's a squeeze. So..................... we are biting the bullet, selling him, and my bike and upgrading to a small motorhome. Getting really excited now too. It will be a sad day when Brian (the VW) leaves us, but I have cherished him for 10 years. There are some smashing vans out there, but we have to be quite specific in what layout we need. Fixed bed or rear lounge, so that we can use the bathroom in he night without having to step over the hound. lol So much for an early night last night - spent hours on the internet looking at so many of these vans - and, as happens, the ones we really like are miles away - I mean, Scotland, Yorkshire, London etc. We may be looking for a while I think.......

That sounds amazing. We used to have a trailer tent when our children were growing up, we all loved it. I hope you find just what you are looking for. Does this mean that you will have to change your name? I don't know any of the makers names, but Fordcamperfan just wouldn't cut the mustard. Trisha

Have you thought of a caravan instead?
With there being more of them, you could find one a lot closer.

I admire VW camper vans from a distance but never been in one whereas I have been in a campervan. We rented one once and I had the best sleep in it for ages. I loved the fact we had our own loo on board if we were caught short! I hope you find one soon that ticks all your boxes!

How exciting VW Typical that they're all far away. OH and I were looking at cars and the ones we like are hours away. I like motor homes as you can get in and go, caravans are great but are more work (just my opinion).

Well - what a day Saturday turned out! We sold and delivered my old bike, and thought we would have a pootle round the local-ish area to just have a ook inside a few vans to double check the layout that would work for us. Found a place selling motorhomes in Shropshire, and viewed 4. We loved the first one we stepped into as it was perfect for us. Fixed double bed in back, bathroom alongside, then plenty of space for Fred. Sofa at front with the drivers and passengers seats also swiveling around to seat 4 in total.Kitchen area with cooker, hob, sink, tap, fridge/freezer. MOT history checked and nothing untoward on those. Saw it in its raw state before they had chance to clean it up etc and even so it looked really good. No damp/musty smell and seemed well looked after. 2 owners from new. they will give us 12 months warranty too. had a good feel about the place. so....... we are going for a second look on Saturday with a view to buying! Bit scared as it is a lot of money - but I don't go out, don't smoke, rarely drink, have no children, and as we both work hard we think we deserve this van. (i'm justifying it now to myself lol) Very excited but trying to keep a cool head ;-)

Well - things have moved on and stayed the same lol. We went to have a proper look and decided the ones we saw just weren't for us. Also, after certain events this weekend I made a decision that we won't be changing what we have just yet. We do love it but it needs a repsray and some rust issues sorting. We will get that done properly this winter then will have an immaculate van again. The thought of borrowing a large amount of money was just too much, and ties me to this job for the duration of the loan. I didn't want that. I have decided that with the hours I would be working, I just wouldn't have time to enjoy the new van properly to get our money's worth. So hoping to be in a position to reduce my days or get a different job in the next 2 years, to free up all important time. You can't buy time, and that means more to me. Never say never about the van, just not now.......
