I joined a secret summer gift giving through a camping page I am on, and had a random name allocated to me to make a gift for - much like a secret santa. Did a bit of facebook stalking and found a picture of the ladies new puppy so made her a cross stitch picture of her dog. Glad to say, after 3 months of stitching, she loved it. When she put it up on the page it was hard not to say 'you're welcome' lol

What a fantastic thing to do for someone who you don't know that well, she must have been thrilled - did you hide your initials somewhere in the stitching

VW that is such a thoughtful and kind thing to do. How on earth did you do it? You must be extremely artistic as well as a talented sewer.

VW, that's amazing you are a very talented lady. I have often looked at sites offering to prepare a chart of your photos. They are daunting. To make one of my own? I wouldn't know where to start.

Thanks Gracie - I googled how to make a cross stitch chart from a photo and there are several websites you can use. They also give you all the thread information - 48 colours in this picture. Then 3 months of stitching and eyestrain

Trisha Thanks Trisha - enjoyed doing it so much, there's something lovely about giving, and when it's to a stranger it feels even nicer I think

The important question VWC, is what gift did you receive? Ah, well I didn't actually get a handmade gift, but received a book and pompom maker. I have signed up to the next one, and am secretly hoping someone will make me something lol

VW, does your group post photographs of the gifts? It would be interesting to see what other people received. Our daughter was a member of a forum where they did a secret swap of hand made gifts. Some people went to great lengths to make something that they thought that their recipient would like. This ranged from door wreaths (christmas) to patch work cushions. One person received an egg cosy. The only swappers went to town and sent her loads of lovely things. The egg cosy person was not invited to be involved in any future swaps.

Trisha Trisha - yes this is a group I am on, on Facebook - and the same thing happens - gifts, when opened, are posted online for all to see and the majority are fab. Some are made by beginners but the thought is there, the odd few don't send anything, so are banned from the next one! I have just signed up to the Autumn one so busy making a gift for that now :-)
