The temperature has been slowly dropping over the last few days. I keep looking at the fire (its made up and ready to go) and wonder whether I should get a fleece jumper or light the fire.

Ours has been on a few times this month... We have a wood burner.

6herry, we have one too. Best things ever! I decided on a warm jumper and a heated throw. Cosy, but the fire still looked appealing.

The best thing about wood burners, is, you always initially overestimate how much wood to use, so the place ends up scorching.

6herry, I agree. I open a door and let the heat out to warm the rest of our bungalow. Tonight, I have the first fire of the autumn. Lovely.

Our boiler was taken out of service around the beginning of July. Almost 3 weeks ago we had a new one installed and it’s been no end of problem. I wanted to cry today as we had 5 men in the house all scratching their heads as they tried to work out what was wrong while pulling boxing off from concealed pipes, (we live in an old house and o there is quite a bit). All were walking around the house in dirty shoes too as the boiler is in the cellar which currently has a damp floor due to all the rain. OH is out this evening so I’ve been monitoring all evening and it still isn’t right! It is chilly and I’m now very used to wrapping up in a blanket every evening watching TV. I’m imagining your fire Trisha and it’s warming me up.

In winter, we find the best thing to do is wander about with a hot water bottle.

I really feel for you with this one Gracie, nothing worse than a playing up boiler, and 5 men wrecking your house and shoes on indoors, I would be having a meltdown too, hope all is fixed by now. Heating on here morning and evening now, and trusty log burner doing her stuff, such a cheerful sight, hunkering down and hyggeing allowed right now

Hopefully they have now solved the problems but having said that one radiator is still not heating up. Yesterday my car had to go into the garage as it has been leaking coolant fluid. We left home at 6.30 to get to the garage early so we would be back home in time for more workmen arriving. We are having a new kitchen. More mess! My car was all iced up! The bedding plants took a hit. Seems early to have such a cold and frosty morning.

Gracie, get your boiler people to bleed the radiators. That may be why one radiator isn't getting warm. Thank goodness that you are getting everything sorted before winter sets in. We had our kitchen replaced, it's a nightmare and seems to go on forever. I won't mention the upheaval and mess!

That sorted our heating system out a few years, and it is so easy, I can do it now.
