We have one which has grown to about 5 foot tall. I’m not sure how to prune it. I googled but got pretty useless info. Why do people who post YouTube videos waffle on so much? Some bore me to tears and I have to click off within seconds! anyway back to my hydrangea- have you ever cut one back t9 ge ground? Or hard pruned? If so what were the results?
LL, the only thing that I know about hydrangeas is that you can prune after the flowers go over. Next years buds are starting to form soon after. Could you just prune some branches and she how it looks next year. Do you have a local garden centre you could ask?
You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. C. S. Lewis

Good idea to ask at a garden centre Trisha, thanks. I do know if you cut too much off then there are no flowers the following year. Ours has been beautiful in previous years but it’s just too leggy and tall and blocks access to a gate.
