After Boris’ announcement, lots of us are struggling to come to terms with the new rules. As many people we will have to alter plans and make new ones to celebrate together in the spring. Good times are ahead, we are nearly at the end. I send my love and good wishes to you all xx

After 24 hrs in Tier 3, we are now moving into Tier 4. Fortunately several weeks ago we had agreed not to meet family over Christmas, it just seemed to me too risky and now Bo-Jo appears to have decided the same - it's desperately sad for people (like my 90 year old Dad, who earlier this week we had agreed wouldn't be going to my brother's as arranged but my sister would pop into him en route - now that can't happen) but clearly this virus is totally out of control, the current tiers aren't working and letting people mix over Christmas was a recipe for absolute disaster.
Stay safe everyone, next Christmas we'll have a proper one!

I would rather adhere to any rules than risk anyones life over 1 day. We can all still celebrate in our own homes in whatever way we like and if elderly relatives are allowed to have someone from their bubble look in on them, is that right? Most of us all have some form of video calling too. Facebook portal looks quite cool, virtually in the same room.
There were so many people breaking rules the first lockdown that it was no surprise this virus didn't go. I hope people will take this seriously and just have 1 different Christmas, in order to have more in the future.
I wish everyone a safe and peaceful christmas.

Yes B, if we have someone in our bubble we can still see them. Our youngest lives alone and will be here for Christmas Day. X

He is in a bubble with my youngest sister so she will pop over to spend some time with him on Christmas Day. He is having his first Coronavirus jab on Wednesday (well hopefully, presumably they won't cancel it in light of the new banding). He doesn't really celebrate Christmas, so it's just going to be disappointing not to see the family but he'll be ok.

Sorry to hear you have gone into Tier 4. We just have to brave the next few months till Spring . We have all come so far in this virus fight now to jeopardize it.
I feel comfortable to have a quiet time and just hunker down for Jan/Feb as they will be rocky months.

One of the most difficult things about this blooming virus is that it keeps us all apart .... in other situations of adversity people come together to provide comfort (eg during the war, where people shared what they had with those around them) - but the whole issue here is trying to keep us apart to stop the spread, it's so against our human instinct to huddle together. The 'Keep Calm & Carry On' slogan doesn't quite apply here - 'Keep Calm, wear your Mask, wash your hands and keep away from everyone else' isn't quite as snappy. Winter was always going to be a challenge, this thing seems to like the cold and the NHS is always under greatest strain at this time of the year anyway. Really hoping that the early indication that the vaccine will still work against the new variant is correct, but it appears to be likely we'll all need to get vaccinated every year with a slightly different recipe like with the flu vaccination. Stay safe my friends and we'll get through this  |

All ok here. I'm 'bubbled' with our daughter, her dad in law 'alone, same as I am ' we have both been invited for lunch. Our granddaughter is overjoyed. I will come home when our little one goes to bed. I would have enjoyed time on my own this Christmas. I think she still hopes that I will marry him. Enough said!? Trisha |

Moi, no booing me, but I rather like Boris's hair, it's the ruffled school boy look. I think he would look odd with his hair all neat.

That's part of the problem for me - I don't want my country to be run by a ruffled schoolboy, I want a proper statesman who will be taken seriously by the rest of the world If my son had arrived at primary school with his hair like that, I'd have done what every other self-respecting mother does - spit on her hand and flatten it down for him

We here in Wales were thrown into lockdown midnight Saturday night - bit of a shock as was expecting it from 24th, but there you go - people have and still are, ignoring the rules/guidance and as a result we are again locked down. OH isn't happy as he always leaves his Xmas shopping till last minute and now he can only use Tesco or Morrison lol. I'm expecting gin lol
Mum still coming here for Xmas Day - she's only 5 minutes away and in my bubble. OH's mum and brother can't join us so will spend their day together.
I did my normal weekly shop after work last night and picked up my turkey crown, but the shelves were getting bare as people are panic buying. I am glad that I don't really need to shop now until next year, and then only essentials as will have a rummage at the bottom of the freezer for things that really need using!

Glad to see that all is well with you all, apart from me having a second hair appointment cancelled, so now, along with Boris, I‘m also looking a bit unkempt.
We are in tier 4 over here, I just need to go shopping tomorrow for fresh food and a couple.of small presents as I had to change my plans for two people, hey ho, if I can’t get them it’s not the worst thing that can happen, there is always chocolates, hopefully the shelves won’t be empty ?
