Ironically Hilary is now ahead in the popular vote thee electoral college system has let America down again .
Trouble ahead for the USA & the world.
Hilary ran a terrible campaign , while I voted for her she didn't have any stand out clear cut message .
trump got help from the head of the FBI ( a Republican ) who brought up the e-mail server scandal to arouse suspicions about Hilary's honesty .Then suddenly dropped it , the harm had been done , he'd done his job .
They say Trump tapped into discontentment about how things are going , a declining economy , illegal immigration , Islamophobia .
We watched the returns in the lounge , most people were for Hilary but there were a few loud Trump supporters . Had to keep quiet around them !
It feels like when your friend announces she's marrying a guy who you and all her other pals know is a jerk, but she doesn't seem to have noticed, you know he will not give her the things she thinks he will, or treat her well and that it will all end badly, but there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.
The popular vote is when everyone votes.True democracy .The electoral college is only for Presidential elections , the members of the electoral college pick the President .They are electors in every state , in some places by law and elsewhere by tradition vote for the President based on who got the most votes in their individual states. The bigger the population of the state the more electors .
The founding fathers of the USA thought an electoral college made up of upper crust types was the best idea since they didn't trust the people to always make the best choice for President .Huh ?
The electoral college favors the states with the biggest populations since they have the most electoral college members. A candidate could kip many small population states to concentrate on the larger populations to win .There have been elections like 2000 where a candidate can get the most votes but still lose since the opposing candidate won in the states with the larger populations .This also happening now, Hillary is leading Trump in the popular vote .
They should scrap the electoral college and leave it to the popular vote but don't think that will happen since it wud cause too much trouble.
His 100 day programme is very radical. Starting trade wars. The Mexican economy will be badly hit with high tariffs. I recently visited Mexico and the people despite their problems were lovely and trying to improve their economy. Feel sorry for them. Badpuss
It's sickening -if not surprising- to see that he was endorsed by the most controversial far right leaders in European counties : - In France, National Front founder Jean-Marie Le Pen, who has been fined in France for "inciting racial hatred" ( his daughter Marine somewhat makes efforts to distance FN from its racist image, framing opposition to immigration as an economic issue).
- Dutch Party for Freedom founder Geert Wilders - in Belgium, Filip Dewinter, Flemish nationalist Vlaams Belang party - Golden Dawn, , the ultra-right-wing Greek nationalist party, made a pro-Trump video starring neo-Nazis.
- leading Italian right-wing politician Matteo Salvini (anti-immigration Northern League) -Poland’s conservative Law and Justice party.
-Far-right leaders in Russia, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden ...
