Our daughter has just sent me this.

It's one way of describing this dreadful war to frightened children.

After the last BIG playground right (WW2), lots of popular kids (WORLD LEADERS) got together and made a big gang (NATO) and all the kids in the big gang made a pinky promise (TREATY) to e nice and respectful and not fight each other any more.
This means not going into each other's playground (COUNTRY)without permission, and not throwing sticks and stones (HEAVY ARTILLERY) at each other, and the UK is part of the gang.
But then a new kid (UKRAINE) joined the playground and the big bad bully (RUSSIA) started picking on the new kid all because he is greedy and bossy and wanted the new kids playground space for himself even though he has one of the biggest spaces in the playground.
But, sadly, the new kid is not part of the gang because the big bad bully didn't want the new kids to join the gang.
We would be breaking our pinky promise it any of the gang members help the new kids fight the bully.
We have all told the bully off, and stuck up for the new kids by hiding the bully's pocket money until the bully stops hurting the new kids (SANCTIONS) and this will ,hopefully stop the bully from buying more sticks and stones.
We have also given the new kids lots of our own sticks and stones to fight the bully, because this is not breaking our pinky promise.
Even though it's really, really sad, all we can do is stand on the edge of the playground and watch and give support to the new kids because we are not allowed to fight the bully for them, not without breaking the pinky promise.
BUT if the bully breaks the pinky promise and comes into our playground (UK) without permission and throws a stick or stone at us, the whole of the gang (NATO) will come and help us and we will ALL jump on top of the bully (RUSSIA) and beat him up.
This is not meant to be lighthearted in any way.

My parents came to the UK as refugees from Ukraine after the 2nd World War. They made a life for themselves here but still have some family back in Ukraine. I feel the west could be doing more on the ground, to help these poor people of Ukraine. However I understand that Putin is Mad/Bad enough to start world war 3, therefore we are all terrified of the consequences of going to fight his troops in Ukraine. I fear that he might not stop if he thinks that the west is too scared to stand up to his cruel regime.

Been listening to the radio and they said that lots of Russians are now getting out of Russia. Prices have doubled in a week, they fear their liberties are being taken from them with Putin blocking media from the world. They also fear that they might come under attack if things don’t stop.
It frightens me when I hear about red flags in relation to Putin. It’s suggested he might use chemical weapons against his own soldiers and then blame Ukraine. I read about a blind boy who was taken by a grandmother with her blind granddaughter from a school, to Mariupol for safety as his mother couldn’t get to him. A week later, that city is in desperate situation and I keep thinking of how that poor boy is.

Jax, I think there have been over 6 million people die from Covid around the world.

Today at my mainly expat apartment building there was a mad rush or almost flash mob to help the Ukraine in our own little way .

We booked rooms in Ukraine with AIRBNB to help the people out with money .Included 5 of the Japanese, 3 Swedes , 4 Americans , 2 Singaporeites ( is that a correct word ? ) 2 Canadians , a single israeli ( no surprise since most of the ones here are so self worshipping ), 4 French residents , 2 Indians , and me .Although I do not have an AIRBNB account paid money to one of the other Americans to send money.

There have been protests outside the Russian embassy here , Putin has angered the whole world.

The situation is absolutely appalling Anya - I am so sorry that the rest of the world isn't doing more to put a stop to Putin's madness (although i am not clever enough to know what options there are).

6 million LL - that's shocking but I wonder how many countries had deaths but didn't declare them.

When a nutter is in charge..everyone's scared, because people like that can't be reasoned with. He knows that he's lying to his own people but must think they don't have access to the truth or they daren't speak out themselves.

It looks awful that other countries are not sending troops in but once they do it's world war 3 and none of us will be left - that's how I see it. This is someone who has access to novichok. A message was sent to the world not that long ago about how easy it is to deploy that - Salisbury.

So awful for your relatives Anya - despite what I said above, If I was in Ukraine I'd be wanting the rest of the world to help too.

I read that the president of the EU ,Ursula Von Der Leyen, has visited Bucha to see the situation first hand. She is one courageous woman.

It's another case of a woman 'doing and not procrastinating '.
Meanwhile the Ukrainian people are waiting for an unacceptable time for a visa. One lady was on the radio yesterday saying that she had been asked to pay £250 to have a Ukrainian, refugee, baby fingerprinted. She told the authorities exactly where to go. It seems like the fee was waved!
Meanwhile, we have the wives of politicians finding a loophole to avoid paying tax in this country.
