Special mention from a past post .Arielle Dombasle , I remember her from TV5 Monde. What a Diva ! Too many song with high pitched notes for me . But you know she has real talent , saw her do RUM & COCA COLA and she was great. The same with some 60's French rock songs . Her husband the professor used to be on CNN lots is quite a Diva too.

Joan of Arc. Thought she was a legend but now see she was real .She should be a global feminist icon .

Watergate . Still there. You can go inside and see the doors taped open by the burglars that brought Nixon down. Popped up in a later scandal since that's where Clinton's Monica Lewinsky lived .

Fuhrerbunker. Saw it in Berlin .Apartments there now, a tour guide said people like living there since this is the spot Hitler died .Even with my sense of humor that sounds bizarre but it is the German's country .

William Randolph Hearst .Evil man , the Rupert Murdoch of his day .

Duke Ellington . A real legend .He once said there are only 2 kinds of music, good music and bad music .I think of that every time I hear most of that angry Rap music or some god awful country song like I'M A PISTOL PACKIN' WHISKY DRINKING LADY LOVIN' TRUCK DRIVING SON OF A BITCH.

When I lived in Paris, i happened to see Arielle Dombasle , in "Saint Germain des Prés. You're right, she's a diva, somehow ...not really human ! A friend who was having dinner in a prestigious, ***** gourmet restaurant in the south of France said she fed on some salad leaves without any dressing - while "BHL" enjoyed the menu.
He's a star too - and i did enjoy readiing his essays. But a bit too "media-friendly" and therefore often criticized.
Joan of Arc : real, and a legend at the same time. Still is very popular in France (specially among nationalist supporters.According to the legend, she was a sheperdess, but must have been quite educated !
Can't imagine people wanting to dwell where Hitler had lived and died...

Not really fan of jazz,( a friend of mine was, and called his cat "Ellington !) but like Duke Ellington.

Could you imagine him today with 24 hour tv news?

The death of Bin Laden .The news was announced on late Sunday nite .We & our neighbors had a party complete with a champagne toast to the Navy killing him . Lots of commentary , the next door neighbor a black lawyer called his father who did something jocko macho in the Viet Nam War and knew all about commando raids . His wife had a cousin who was with the CIA .Our upstairs neighbor had served in Somalia . CNN showed crowds cheering outside the White House . After watching the horror of 9/11 I was happy. Huh ? I was at another UK site where many thought the USA was wrong to shoot Bin Laden m0786

Catherine the Great . Great to see a woman standing out in history .Catchy title. Is it true about her & the horse ?
