Is it "new addition", or should we read "new addiction" ;-) By the way, if you have a Facebook account, and enter "Black cat" in the search case, you'll find quite a lot of pages devoted to black cats (promoting a positive image). There's also a black cat in our family's pets : after being rescued from a trap (lost 2 fingers), he remained 2 months at the vet's, as nobody wanted wanted to adopt a black cat. He 's a love !

Thank you all He is the friendliest little chap, so full of beans and has made himself completely at home in just one day, curled up and went to sleep on my lap last night, then OH's, then YD's, couldn't make up his mind which one he liked the most Why would people not want to rescue a black cat Shaliby? strange isn't it. The shelter said they usually have a problem re-homing white ones too, I don't get that at all. I now have one black and one white You're in for good luck then Jax

Bellatrix, in France there's a superstition "black cat=bad luck".

I heard that white cats get attacked by other cats......

6herry : that may be because blue-eyed white cats are often deaf, so,they're less able to prevent an attack? I've got friends who are cat-breeders and now, before selling a kitten for future breeding, they have to produce a genetic test proving they don't have that "deafness gene". If not, they must be neutered.

I think Black cats stand for good luck in this country Shaliby... hope that's right Our first white cat (blue eyed) was totally deaf, this one isn't. I hope they get on, early days yet but will be getting some of the homeopathic remedy you recommended Shaliby just in case

Our cat went deaf after she had inflammation of the brain. It was a miracle she survived, as she was about 14.
But every so often she would go into my daughters bedroom, which was large and echoey, and she would scream really, really loud.
She didn't mind being watched, and did not seem at all distressed, she just did it, then left. I suspect she was testing her own hearing, as she didn't do it very often.
She was my favourite cat. She always 'spoke' when she entered the room, or if you addressed her. She would say please when she wanted the door open, and thanks when you did it. Sometimes she would come into the room and just chat.
I have had two cats since, and they have been such a let down in comparison, that I may never have another.

Hugo looks lovely Bellatrix. Nice name too. If a black cat crosses your path then you are supposed to have good luck which is going to happen a lot in your house now. 6herry how did the vet diagnose your cat's inflammation of the brain?

I don't actually know, my ex took her into the vet. She was very floppy and could hardly stand. To feed her I put her head on a saucer and put the food next to it, likewise her water. She passed the time by washing herself, and in fact so much so that she ended up completely bald with just a mohican running down her back lol. Of course when she recovered all the hair grew back at the same time, and it took years off of her. Due to her being starved and abused before we got her, she was always really tiny and never put any weight on, but she was a real tough nut to survive, her will to live was amazing. Funny thing was that my ex really put himself out for that cat, but she never had the respect for him that she had for me. She sussed him a lot quicker than I did.
