OH and I have completely different opinions on gardening but of course my way is ALWAYS the right way! Today we bought some bedding plants and OH thinks that we can plant them into last years pots with last years compost. I disagree and think we should replace the compost as all the nutrients will have been used up. Who do you agree with?

I am no expert at all LL but I would put new compost in as it comes with 4 months of nutrients - if you use the the old I would suggest feeding the plants all through the season.

Definitely use fresh compost, last year's plants would have taken all the nutrients. Check the date on your new compost, which magazine has shown poor results from old compost.

Use the new compost and scatter the old compost just generally across the soil in the garden.

Definitely new compost - the old roots will have sucked the life out of the old soil ..... but I'm a lazy gardener and can understand why your OH wants to do the easy option ;-)

Well the pots have been filled with half of last years compost mixed with half new! We'll see what the results are but OH is intent on using plant food to ensure they look good and to prove me wrong!

What is it with men that they have to get one over on you I was a member of the vw caddy owners forum. You wouldn't really think that owning a van would be a competitive sport would you? I read one thread of a guy doing up his van, he put thousands into it, I would guess over twenty thousand. Easily, and that is probably an underestimate. This van had wheels off of a Bentley. I don't know if his was the best or not, I just chose one at random, the forum was full of men pouring evenings and weekends, and sacks of money into their vans. It made me look at my wardrobe and shoe collection and say 'so'? Boys and their toys!

6herry - I know what you mean. We go to VDub shows in my old van and have seen those Bentley wheels on a few there. They do spend silly amounts of cash - then I look at mine and think he goes, he stops, he's clean inside, the bed is comfy, I have a loo, 4 ring gas hob, fridge and cupboard space. It has old original steel wheels but they turn lol. OH is constantly suggesting we change wheels, lower it etc etc - but Brian is mine and what I say goes lol

.............................. OH is constantly suggesting we change wheels, lower it etc etc - but Brian is mine and what I say goes lol I remember just after reading about them 'upgrading' their vans, there was one like mine going past, and, just for a moment, I recall thinking "Those chrome door handles do look smarter than my black ones!"
