We were away last week camping and has planned on staying until Saturday, but came home a day early as Fred decided to rip out his toenail right down to the bone! I've never seen so much blood!!! It was everywhere - full the awning and all over me! It happened at 10pm so we called the site owners emergency vets who said just to strap it up and see what it was like the next day. We decided to come home and see our own vet the following day and she said they couldn't have done a better job of it, if he was having it done in surgery! Bone and nerve exposed! He has been a very brave soldier and had dressing changed twice, and off again on Friday to get it looked at. I do, however, think he is milking the situation! Now refuses to eat unless I bring the bowl to his bed, but careering around like a fool when we have visitors lol I know it has to be so sore, and ripping a nail into the live is always painful but this is a proper job.

Ouch! Poor Fred. I can just imagine him loving all the attention. Food taken to his bed!!?? Giggle. He sounds as though he is probably in pain, other little doggies would be very grumpy. Sending lots of snuggles to your little wounded soldier.

OOh I was reading that from behind the couch. How horrible, for you all.
We had an unpleasant experience last week. The man who was fixing our car got upset after he asked what dog we had. His dalmation had died very recently, it was only 9 and had gone downhill fairly quickly.
Well our dalmation has just turned nine..........
We have been thinking about that all week.

Ooooh that must be terribly sore for Fred but he has to stand on all 4s so no wonder he wants his food brought to him! Hope it heals very quickly. Give him a stroke and a pat from me!

OOh poor man, and you for now worrying!! I know bigger breeds tend to have slightly shorter life spans, but happy, healthy dogs can live long lives - try not to dwell on it - enjoy yours! They are a lovely, dippy breed.

The guy went on to say that his kids had been so upset, they had got a cockapoo. He added: "It's a lovely animal, we all love him to bits. But it's just a dog, you know what I mean?"
We rather do.

Ooh VW , that made me feel quite strange when I read it, squirmed on my seat. Poor Fred, how's he getting on now?
Don't concern yourself 6herry, both of my dogs well exceeded the ages they were supposed to live to .

It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end when he did it lol He had final dressing off yesterday - it still looks sore and a big empty space where a big thick nail should be, but he's being goo and leaving it alone. I put a cotton sock on when he's alone in case he licks it and he's fine about that lol

I must have mentioned it on another forum.
It was a jack russell. It had been friendly when I arrived and I had patted it. When I left it came over to see me, but ducked when I bent down to pat it. As I stood up it started attacking my knee. Fortunately I was wearing trousers and was left unharmed, and assured the woman i was ok. When I got back to the car, it was bleeding in about 3 places, adrenalin had kept the pain away. I was amazed at the lack of warning and the depth of ferocity, it must have tried 4-5 bites before I pushed it away, which I did as fast as I was able.
Imagine if a big dog had done the same and taken 4-5 bites out of the same knee?
I am more careful around dogs now.

OOh that's nasty - and it does knock your confidence around other dogs too. You'd be fine with Fred - whoever I stop to talk to on a walk - he just goes up to them and leans against them....... ;-)

Poor Fred. Our dogs haven't been injured (yet) but if they ever are I can definitely see them milking as long as possible. And I will play right into it. If dh did the same thing however I would no doubt tell him to man up 😂
