I agree with what you said about PM May Jax. I think neither of the leaders of the two main parties are trustworthy or acting in the best interests of the people. Mrs May is now including members of other parties in her discussions. From the debate last night there were clearly excellent people on both sides of the house who have useful contributions to make. Corbyn is again playing politics and this may rebound on him in the future. I don't trust Trump to give us a fair deal on trade. He has already said he thinks the NHS have exercised power over the US pharmaeceutical companies and wants the NHS to pay more for its drugs. US citizens pay more for their drugs than many other countries due to the power of their pharmaceutical companies. He is also trying to get us to accept lower agricultural standards in our trade deals with US farmers.
Hi, I have been back to the hospital and had my stitches removed. That was painful without any anaesthetic but I had made progress and now have a boot instead of plaster so I can sleep better. No lead-bearing for four weeks and then I can swim and walk. So I could go on a beach holiday in late February. I am in my bedroom and have written the first drafts of two stories for anthologies and started part two of my paranormal novel. I am reading and reviewing books online and watching lots of tv. Seen loads of repeats including Bonanza and Rawhide and Gunsmoke which I remember from my youth. Steve is trying to come home and lunchtime and I can make tea in my room. I have a fridge for sandwiches if he is going to be out all day. The cats are guarding me in case I escape. They sleep most of the day in this weather and have a mad rush around each night up the stairs and into the extension. Steve had nearly completed the extension downstairs and we are waiting for the plasterer to plaster the bedroom so he can finish it. We are fed up with tradesmen who do not communicate. At least whilst we are not going out he can get home early and do building work.
I agree with LL. I don't think the present deal which has been rejected was very good but a cross-party group could have found a solution. I agree about the referendum because polls suggest the country is split in half again. There is no consensus in the country. Even some Remainers are sick of the intransigence of the EU and some people who voted leave now want to remain because they thought they were deceived by the Leave politicians. Parliament seems to be shambolic and Corbyn is just waiting to start a no-confidence vote to force a general election. The media seem to be covering the same things with the same people and dramatising the situation. There have been interesting discussions with firms to see how they are coping with the uncertainty.
Hi LL. I buy huge containers made from plastic from Costco but they are used for permanent storage ie books and tools and are brilliant for putting in the bottom of cupboards and filled with packets which sometimes leak and are easier to clean that cupboard bottoms.
I am taking a net bag shopping which is much smaller and easier to put in a pocket than thick plastic bags for life.
Morrisons offer paper bags for small amounts of mushrooms etc instead of a plastic bag. It is possible to take one's own container for fish and meat for purchase at their counters. I am using plastic takeaway containers to store veg and leftovers instead of plastic bags.
Hi LL, I hope your cough improves soon. I found Covonia was the best cough mixture for me. Try to rest a little now the family are gone. You need to see a doctor in case it is Bronchitis.
Happy new Year to you Bellatrix and all the rest of the lovely ladies on this site. Came home from the hospital and watched tv. Went to sleep early as I didn't get much sleep in hospital and am now used to being worked up for medicines etc at 5.30 am. Lots of papers to sort out and six books to review as well as two stories for anthologies to write and two novels to start. Have also to look at he books for kids I wrote but didn't publish as well. Steve's ankle is better and he is building still.
Hi ladies, thanks for your best wishes. I am now in my bedroom. Steve is ok. The cats have made sure I am here but are now cold-shouldering me. I think they thought i had gone somewhere enjoying myself. The hospital lent me crutches and everything else I needed and were efficient and caring the majority of the time. Some nice carers there.
Hi, I had my op yesterday but was sick and dizzy so I couldn't go home today. Am feeling better and trying a zimmer frame and hope to work on crutches tomorrow. As soon as I am secure on those I will go home possibly day after tomorrow. Steve tried to get the house ready and made himself over-tired and he was worrying about me and not sleeping well. The consequences were he fell down the cellar stairs and has now a sprained ankle and cannot walk from the hospital car park to the ward anyway tonight. I told him to rest it and sleep downstairs on the sofa and he will be ok in two days. I could come home by cab and then he could help me into the house.
Thanks Jazzy and LL. No pain but my op has been cancelled again. The consultant was starving me and trying to get me into another hospital but it is here if I am lucky tomorrow. Steve is now asking our insurance company if I can have the op done at our private hospital at Solihull funded by his work insurance. if I don't get the op tomorrow here. Poor nurses are suffering abuse from a woman whose mother can't speak English and she is blaming them for her mother's pain when the woman who is my age refuses to obey the consultant's instructions and get out of bed and move a little. She screams if the physio touches her. They can't win. Another refuses most of the hospital food. Refuses to eat salads or most vegetables and then wonders why she is ill with diabetes. She says she lives on junk food and then wonders why she is a diabetic. The food is not bad. It is not the Ritz and there are about five choices of mains for lunch. Better than I expected and most of the nursing staff are helpful.
I wasn't allowed anything to eat or drink as they thought I was going into theatre but it was cancelled and then I was fed. I do have a tv net to me but it isn't used much. Noisy mobile conversations and a large family group are worse particularly as there are two attention seekers who the nurses have to spend ages trying to persuade them to eat the food which has been quite good up to now. This pair moan about everything. Then nurses try hard. One lady cannot get a doctor to see her mother as she is not regarded as urgent which would annoy me. I don't care if it is a bank holiday. She still needs to be helped. I have been treated quite well here but I don't need much and the nurses are spending a lot of time pacifying the moaners.
Hi Trisha, no pain now as the doctors put the dislocated bones back into position. Just stiff. The care has been very good here. I need to move around a bit on crutches soon. I hope the op is tomorrow. They won't send me home as I would lose the bed although I am bed-blocking until a theatre place comes free.
