I remember watching Obama's inauguration on tv in January 2009 and really feeling that it was a hugely positive and possibly world-changing event, but it's felt like a long 10 years since then.
I loved Jackie - not least because we shared our name. I did write a letter to Cathy & Claire (agony aunts) which I didn't post, but was mortified when my mother found it
Only 2 of the Christmas Dinner guests actually like Christmas Pudding (my MIL makes them every year and offers us one, but most of it gets wasted), so it was a nod to tradition to buy one (as we'd not invited her this year!). I have to say it was an exceptionally nice one, but it's a blooming long way to come from Australia.
It's not always easy to buy local - at a Christmas fair we bought a Christmas pudding which was being sold by a 'local' company, it was only when we read the small print on the label as we went to cook it that it became apparent it was made in Australia ...... now you could argue that we were still supporting a local small business by purchasing it, but we felt a bit duped.
I am putting my head above the parapet here - so please don't shoot me - but I think Mrs May ... who has described herself as a difficult woman ... is not someone who consults other people, she has strong ideas of how she wants things to go and expects everyone else to fall in behind her, which clearly a majority of her own MPs refused to do last night. I agree completely that a cross-party group should have been working on this to find a solution which was most palatable to most people (you're never going to be able to please everyone). I think she may survive the vote of confidence tonight, I also think Labour haven't been up-front about what they'd do about Brexit if there was an election imminently - their conference last Autumn agreed they'd go ahead with Brexit if they got into power, but would they change their mind if they thought it would attract more votes? I find it hard to believe that at this stage the EU are going to give much away, despite all this talk about going back and demanding what we want (do we even know what we want?!). They don't want us to leave so why on earth would they try to make it easy - didn't we realise that all along . Challenging days!
I've been using Eco Egg for the last few years - primarily because I have very sensitive skin - I find it good and effective, although some stains don't come out if they're greasy.
Personally I don't watch the Queen on Christmas Day - I read somewhere that this year there had been some criticism that it had been filmed with a gold piano in the background, which was seen as flaunting her riches, however it's probably been in the family for centuries (or it was a gift from Elton John!).
Oh Badpuss2 - what a terrible thing to happen. Did you get seen quickly in hospital - my daughter was on duty in A&E yesterday (she's a radiographer) and said it was really quiet so the best possible day to have to be seen quickly!
Hope the op goes ok, such a shame about your holiday :-(
