I have said both as our American friends might not know what a ladybird is. We have quite a few living or hibernating, not sure which, around the window in our bedroom. When it’s a sunny day they appear. A few have died on the window sill. What are we supposed to do with them? Any ideas?

That’s a great idea. We have a bug house which we were given as a present but I’ve never seen anything in it. Perhaps we put it in the wrong place! I’ll have a go at putting them in there. A friend suggested the greenhouse or on my cactus in our conservatory. It seems an odd time for ants. Hate them in the house. My D said they had a mouse so her husband bought humane traps. They caught nothing and I was bothered with the new baby on it’s way so bought old fashioned traps. Put som peanut butter on and next motn8ng we had a body. Son in law was not happy with me!
Definitely blackbirds. We haven't seen any yet, this year. We have snow (still snowing) so the are probably sheltering somewhat. LL, you are right. Mice and a new baby don't mix. I hope that they don't see any more.
