Though we live in Scotland which generally has lovely soft water (we were spoiled before and took it for granted)) we are now not connected to the mains due to being in the middle of nowhere so our water comes from a well. And it is very hard. Limescale is a nightmare and the water tastes awful. So we use a brita filter. They are so good. We do get through a LOT of filters though and they aren't too cheap. That being said I would still recommend them.
Oh this is something I was thinking about today! I have loads of sandals, lots of high heeled sexy knock-em-dead shoes and masses of boots of all shapes and sizes. But no shoes for every day, wet weather wear. I just wear ankle boots with jeans when it is rainy. Even in mid summer!
I love boots. Would wear them every day if I could. Even on the beach. Actually, I did wear them in the beach today whilst walking the dogs in St Andrews!

I have quite a few cookery books but it seems pointless buying them now as there are so many recipes on the net. It's fun to browse them. I still do love my hardback original Delia Smith book and refer to it quite a lot.
I also follow some cookery sites on FB. The trouble is they're very American and a lot of stuff is just not available here. I don't think I'd use their recipes anyway. They seem to base ever meal around meat and enormous amounts of cheese.
View AttachmentOh dear - I'm sure she didn't mean it the way it sounded ;-) I am starting to venture out of my cooking comfort zone. I find I get stuck in a rut of the same old things - but on wet Sundays when I don't do outdoors stuff I try and cook something different or bake a new cake. Made this on Saturday last - a giant cupcake lol
Wow! That's amazing!!! I'm rubbish at baking. I don't have a sweet tooth so lack the incentive to spend the time on anything sweet. I leave that to daughter no 3. She loves baking.
So impressed though. That looks so professional!

View Attachmenthis is his paw 2 weeks after the injury - coming along nicely and no bandage now. He does try and lick it but if I tell him not to he stops. I put him in a sock at night just in case though lol.
How is he doing now? I can't bear it if I think one of mine is ill. I have them down at the vet at the slightest whimper. I'm hopeless. They are usually better within hours. But you never know and always want to do your best for them don't you? Our vet loves me (more for my bank account than anything else).
I do love good owners though, which you obviously are 😍
Yes, I will post photos, CQ - but don't hold your breath, lol. It will no doubt take me a while - everything does, it seems! Your location sounds idyllic. I have found toads here too, miles from the nearest water! I expect yours must be very happy, out in the woods
I'm surprised the foxes or buzzards haven't had it! Our cardboard pile is now gone. I hope it has found another safe hidey hole!
I am rubbish. No head for heights. Can't even stand on a chair as i am such a wimp! Ladders are out.
Spent two days at Alton towers with my girls the other week. I went on everything, even oblivion! But the cable car absolutely terrified me because of the height. Doesn't make sense but that is just the way I am. Fast and high is fine. Slow and high - absolutely a no-no.
Our business sells the equipment and resins to window cleaners (part of our business anyway - we specialise in water purification). There are few window cleaners who are willing to climb ladders these days. With good reason. Have heard of too many falling off ladders and breaking their backs! It's better for house owners too. No more peering in windows and lovely shiny windows and trims.
The more you use them, the less your windows attract dirt. I'm an expert these days in wfp systems (sad) 😂
I have had my mum over for the last few days. I've cooked her lots of interesting things. But today I bought a pie from the butcher in the village (award winning don't you know) and she said it was the best meal she had had all week. Perhaps I should give up cooking hahaha!
I will still keep trying new recipes. It's so interesting hearing what you all do. It's funny how food remains such a stable part of family life despite the changing times.
Just wondering if I am the only person to do this or I am just weird?
I have discovered I love to cook.
When my four girls were little I hated cooking. I didn't have the time to spend being creative and I was so stressed that the least time I spent in the kitchen the better. However I only have two teens here now and I have a lot more time to spend cooking and it is one of my favourite times of the day.
I meal plan and choose different recipes for every day. But I never make the same recipe twice, even if the family have loved it. It just seems to be a bit boring to repeat it. The joy for me comes in not knowing how it is going to turn out. If everyone loves it that is enough for me. And I'm happy to look forward to the new recipe the next day. Is anyone else the same or do you find good recipes and make them over again which is probably sensible?

I only ever use olive oil or coconut oil. I've been traumatised growing up with my mother who used cheap vegetable oil and deep fried everything (typical Scottish diet). She used the same oil over and over, never throwing it out, just adding to it when it got low. Goodness knows the amount of toxins in it. She still does it despite us telling her it can't be good. Maybe I'm overreacting to it but that can't be healthy surely?? Who knows. Dietary advice changes so regularly perhaps she was right and I'm wrong. Im not convinced anyone knows what is best for us.
That's such a good idea, Jazzy. Even though the hot spell has passed here, temperatures are due to rise again in the next day or two so I will take your advice. We live on the side of a hill and I miss not having a pond here but perhaps I can make something smaller. Hmmmm... you've got me thinking! x
Oh it would be so lovely to have a pond. Do it if you can! I have often thought of it for our garden but it seems to be one of those things that I never get round to. Funnily I was clearing away cardboard that I had gathered as there wasn't room for it in our recycling bin and found a toad hiding in it! I wondered why it was there. We live in a wood, our nearest loch is half a mile away. A bit far for it to have travelled! But it seemed healthy and happy. I left it there. A pond is definitely on my 'to do' list. Can you post photos once you have done yours?
