I don't think I've seen that many Al Pacino movies ... I remember "Scent of a Woman" but I'm not sure I've seen any others.
Thought it was interesting that although Ginger Rogers was best known for being the dance partner of Fred Astaire, she was married and divorced 5 times - so never quite found the right life partner.
Had no idea that the Celsius temperature scale was named after Mr Celsius - or that he lived so long ago!
I sympathise Magggzzz - we had to sell my dad's house last year when he had to go into a dementia nursing home (my mum passed away some years before). Although I have siblings, only one of them helped sorting stuff out, the others couldn't be bothered and as the eldest it was mainly down to me. It was a huge job, their 4 bedroom house was full of stuff accumulated over years. None of us really wanted much of their stuff, it either wasn't our style or we had no space for it in our own homes. I took many carloads of stuff to the charity shops, they had some silverware which one of my cousins very kindly sold through a contact of his and the proceeds were donated to the Alzheimer's Society (appropriate, since both my parents developed it). Eventually we found a buyer for the property and I had to get a clearance company in to take the larger pieces of furniture which I couldn't shift and nobody wanted. Although I sometimes feel a bit guilty about getting shot of stuff, I am also very aware that I don't want my children to have the huge task of having to empty our home at some point in the future and I won't be upset if they want to chuck it all away - it's not fair to expect them to want things that were mine, it's a huge burden to have to deal with.
We do have a landline, which gets very little use. We recently spoke to our phone/broadband/tv provider (Virgin) to re-negotiate our monthly fee and asked how much the price would go down if the landline was removed .... unbelievably they said the price would go UP if we gave up the landline!
The 3 years since Prince Phillip died have whizzed by - thank goodness things have moved on since the Covid restrictions that were in place at the time.
I know it's just her name, and she died before they were even launched, but I do enjoy Linda McCartney burgers & sausages!
Some wonderful names included in this list Shaliby, although I didn't know who most of them were their names were definitely notable.
I loved the Titanic film, Leonardo DiCaprio was so handsome when that film was made, and Kate Winslet was good in her role too. It must have been so terrifying for the passengers to know the ship was sinking and their chances of being saved were slim. I'm sure if I ever went on a cruise I'd insist of wearing my life jacket at all times
They bring back memories Sunnydays - as a kid I used to have my hair in 'Julia Style' - a character in The White Horses. As I type this, I am humming the theme tune - which I didn't even realise I remembered until reading your post.
Also loved Belle & Sebastien .... didn't seem to notice either of these programmes were dubbed at the time.
Yes indeed, I love her books - I have read all of the Tom Douglas series of her detective books, I haven't yet ventured into her Stephanie King books yet but maybe that's what I'll try next. So glad you enjoyed the book that you read Shaliby .
I have recently finished Book 3 & 4 in the Richard Osman 'Thursday Murder Club' series - loved them both, his witting writing style really amuses me.
Today I completed 'The Salt Path' by Raynor Winn - true story of a couple who lost their home, the husband received a devastating medical diagnosis and they decided to walk the South West Coast Path, wild camping along the way. Although it was interesting, I don't intend popping my rucksack on and copying them!
I do have an 11 letter word today - not sure if it's the one you're referring to or whether there's another one I can't see yet. I like to space out my play throughout the day, otherwise I rush at it and then miss words that I really should've seen and have put lower scoring ones in instead in my haste to finish!
Absolutely love this puzzle - just as well there's only one a day, or I would spend all my time on it!
I haven't watched the film about Oppenheimer yet, but it's on my list.
Yoko Ono - what hate that woman received for having the audacity to marry John Lennon .... who was my favourite Beatle as a little girl until he went all hippy and then I went off him.
I am sure I must have read Huckleberry Finn at some point in the past, but I really don't remember much about it.
I had no idea that's how You Tube came into being ..... when my son was at college, if he'd told me that he'd come up with the idea I'd have told him it would never be successful
