I said to my husband the other day, it wouldn’t surprise me if Charles ordered a dna test, and if it came back he’s not the father, then he completely strips Harry of all titles and casts him out.
Harry is starting to sound like an American therapist when he talks about speaking his truth and being his authentic self. Doesn’t he understand how damaging that is for other people?
Girlie has been secretly doing drugs for ten years and is now coming off them, but has spent those last ten years being her “authentic self” which in her life means that she’s right, and the rest of the world has to bend to her rules, to accommodate her feelings, to allow her to be the centre of everyone’s universe and quite honestly, Harry sounds exactly the same.

Love a baguette Shaliby, but don't buy them often. Having lived in France for a few years the idea of waking up each day with a trip to the local boulangerie to pick up fresh croissants and baguettes is a lovely romantic image, but in reality, the baguette hardens fairly quickly, and seemed to disappoint more often that not.
Of course they can be frozen, but whilst the croissants were definitely worth freezing, the baguettes not so much.
Having said that, english 'baguettes' don't taste authentic, but as Peppersmum commented, Lidl's are probably the closest here.
I have to agree, if you don't eat them the day you buy them, then you might as well slice them up and make garlic bread!

Great post PM, had no idea there was such a shortage - and I am surprised as this sort of job would fit around your kids school day too, so i'm surprised positions are not being filled by mums with their kids at school.
Horrible cancer statistic, which always begs me to ask the question why? why is their so much - such an increase, but good question for another post.
I was thinking of returning to work as my OH is ill and off work, but then wondered how on earth he would manage all day alone with both hands not working.
I hope your post get's seen by many and it makes a difference xx
sorry to hear OH is not well, hope he gets better soon. Xxx

it surprised me too! It’s actually a really heavy fast-paced job, but I still don’t understand why more parents don’t apply as it’s dead handy for school hours. The money is not fabulous, but it’s above minimum wage. That said, it can interfere with benefits. Hours are usually 10, 15, 25 or 30 a week, with little chance of getting 35 or over, and most councils only pay half wages for the 13 weeks a year off. I have a staff member who works 10 hours a week but won’t do more than two hours a week overtime as she then loses benefits, and as a single mum, that can have a negative impact for her and her kids.
It’s really sad that some people are better off not working, and that’s another reason why industries like ours are suffering.

Wow, Peppersmum, so sad to read about all the illness and death. It must be exhausting and worrying for you. How can you possibly carry on like that?!! I hope you get some new staff soon. Our local pub has been shutting on a Monday to give staff a day of for the same reason. Brexit is to blame as so many Europeans worked in the hospitality industry.
My granddaughter doesn’t have school lunch because they line up alphabetically and she’s back of the queue. She also said that some days they get fish fingers, chips and peas followed by ice cream but as she can’t eat the ice cream due to dairy intolerance, she doesn’t get a dessert. Her story had me laughing watching the expressions on her face. She loves ice cream! I will ask her toda6 about the dinner ladies and report back.
that’s such a shame for her! We have a high regard for allergies in the council where I work, and we always try to have an alternative for anyone who had an allergy. When I was a primary school cook, we had a pupil with a very sever dairy and egg allergy, so we took egg out of what we could (pie glazes, and made vegan muffins) so that the pupil could have “normal” choices like his friends. We also had regular meetings with the pupil’s parents and anything we bought in specially for them, I’d send a photo of the ingredients list to parents via the school secretary for their approval. Now I’m at the comp, we are still very aware of allergies but don’t seem to have many who stay for lunch. On a roll of around 1100 pupils, we feed around 600. Some of the others go home, some bring lunch in, some don’t eat at all but we will still cater to their allergies when needed.
Please look into your granddaughter’s school on this as they should be able to cater to her allergies so that she gets a full meal x

"I have often told my kids that I will not help them with bills, those are their choices, but along with that, I told them that I will never see them starve, so I've always helped out with a bag of shopping here and there, or let them raid my freezer."
That's very fair PM, I wish I had your sensible head - our youngest has cost us a fortune, because we just can't say no.. grrr
I would probably think differently if my youngest was in another country! How is she doing, by the way? xx

Apparently (heard from our department head) the hospitality industry (which includes school meals) is working with a staff defecit of 60%
SIXTY percent!!
We have approx 40 school kitchens in our area, I'm temporarily running one of the comp ones. NONE of our kitchens are running fully staffed at the moment, and that's now having a detrimental effect.
I've been in my present position since April 2021, when I got there, we had one lady who had been on the sick for around three months.
In July 21, one lady was due to retire, (she'd been in this kitchen 34 years) she was diagnosed with cancer 6 weeks before retirement, and died six month later.
The lady who was already on the sick due to cancer, died in March 22
The lady who was the cook, is on long term sick, (not cancer) but her sister who was our original area manager before she retired 5 years ago, died of cancer in March 22 too.
I have another lady off with breast cancer - totally out of the blue, she's recieveing treatment and all is looking well.
I have another lady off with a fractured clavicle.
Another lady left to change her career,
None of these ladies (apart from the cook) have been replaced (and I'm only temporarily filling the cook's position) and so we are all working flat out. As covid is not "a thing" right now, all the kids are back to school, so while staff numbers are dwindling, student numbers and therefore dinner attendees, are rising, and so we are expected to provide more and more, with less and less.
I now leave work at least an hour later every day because the office work that I would get done through the day, cannot get done because I can't leave the floor. (Not a huge problem for me, I still get to finish before 4pm - but start at 7am)
We still have the general sickness bugs and colds which can see other staff take days off through the week - and we all have appointments for ailments etc.
Not a day goes by where someone doesn't cut or burn themselves due to tiredness, (usually me and usually just a small one) but we carry on becuase we are providing for children, and we know we are not alone with this.
I guess what I'm saying is, if you have kids/grandkids in school, please tell them to give their dinnerstaff a little smile, and a little patience, and if you have kids looking for work, or you yourself are looking for something part time/term time, get in touch with the Education Catering Department of your local council (or speak to schools themselves if they are private or part of an Academy) and ask if they have any positions available in their school kitchens.
You could make ALL the difference.

We sometimes have them at the weekend, but will then go all day without another meal until teatime. We used to do that a lot on holiday too, find a supermarket cafe, have an English breakfast, then not eat again until teatime.

It depends on what help they need, and how that impacts you. Like, if they need financial help but that would leave you destitute, then I'd have to say no.
I have often told my kids that I will not help them with bills, those are their choices, but along with that, I told them that I will never see them starve, so I've always helped out with a bag of shopping here and there, or let them raid my freezer.
But as B says, you can only go as far as you are comfortable with, otherwise, the impact on you and your family may become too much for you to cope with.

Love those kind of days Peppersmum, win win for you.. I've never leased a car (but I know BB is with an electric one at the moment, which I'm watching with interest) What do you think you'd like as your next car? Do you have your eye on something? Is it costly to lease or cost effective? excuse all the questions
I had a good day too, managed to snaffle a bargain, a George Sowden designer kettle for half price, he's a 1960's and onwards British designer with a Danish style. It wasn't a frivolous purchase, I really needed a new kettle and happened upon it.
I'd really really like a carbiolet/soft top next, but it all depends on price. I know Ford do a topless version of the KA but I've driven one before and their seats are no good for my ample ass. I think BMW, Merc and Saab are well out of my price range, and the Mustang is just a dream. Peugeot did do a convertible, I think they still do, so it might come down to that one if I can afford it.

Oh good catch with the bargain!
My car costs me £110. a month to lease. It's a 2017 registered Pug, 108, five door with 999cc engine. The insurance is £25.00 a month and I don't do much milage. It was only three years old when I got it, and was valued at around the 6k mark. Because it's relatively new, I can get four years good motoring from it without any major MOT problems (I think I spent £25 in four years on the Aygo, and so far with the Puegeot, I've spent nothing but the MOT fee) The main reason I went on to lease cars was that the kids grew and flew, so I could have a smaller car with smaller engine, but I wanted something that wasn't going to drain my money. We never have disposable cash, so buying a car meant getting something for less than £300 which almost guaranteed I'd be spending money through the year on upkeep, and at least £190 every time the MOT came around. And I'm getting too old to be scrambling around scrap yards looking for new seat-belt catches and the such like.

Hi ladies - work was fun (it is most days but the kitchen I'm currently looking after has suffered knock after knock for the last two years, and honestly, I don't know how they've come through it!)
But today was fun. After work, I had to take the car for it's MOT. I ALWAYS go to a local garage that I've used since I moved up here in 2007, but 6 years ago, I got myself a decent car from a dealership, on lease for four years, which I then traded back in with the same dealership for another car. They promised to look after "good clients" and even got me a bunch of flowers when I had to wait an extra week for the new car as the previous owner had fudged up with the log book. They also put me on their facebbok page as a returning customer!
Not long after I got the car, I gave it a wash and found a small dent and scratch over the back wheel arch. Looked like I'd been trolleyed, so I took photos and emailed the dealership for advice or a quote as I didn't know if the damage had been done before I got the car or just after. As I knew I would be returning the car at the end of the lease, I need it to be in tiptop condition so I can get a good deal on my next one. But, no answer. Then covid hit and the world went tits-up. I emailed again a few months later, and even noted it on a stasfaction survey but to no avail. I'm now three week off being two years into a four year lease.
Anyhoo, the dealership sent me a reminder about the MOT being due, so I decided to give them a chance. £9 more than what the independent charges, but I would be guaranteed a seat in a nice warm showroom where I wouldn't be bothered by noisy kids, noisy machinery, cold drafts, greasy chairs and questionable hot drinks ...
Car was done on time, and after I'd paid, I remebered the dent and asked if the mechanic could take a look to give me a quote. He took a look and explained he'd do the quote but it might be cheaper to go to a smaller independent who may be able to do it cheaper. I explained about the emails and he asked who the salesman was. Then he took me back inside and asked the salesman (same salesman for both cars) about it. He remembered me, I joked about asking if it was too early to find my next car ready for feb 2024 as I'd like a convertible, and he said oh I'm sure we can sort that out, yes I'm sorry about the email, do the repair through aftersales care, no charge.
:-O So It goes in for three days' work on the 15th feb and they are giving me a courtesy car to use all free of charge.
Today was a good day!

We’ve just ordered a new vax carpet cleaner, the Rapid Power Plus (blue one). My living room carpet can’t get any worse (15 year old, cream …) but as it’s open plan and goes through the whole house except our bedroom, it’s not really something we can afford to change right now.
Has anyone used the vax Power Plus? Any good??
