www.bristolsamplers.comI found a Bristol style sampler and decided that it was time I started sewing again. The picture shows it on green fabric stitched in white. The original samplers were stitched with a dark red thread, that's what I am going to do. Using a dark parchment colour evenweave. Trisha

That sounds like a nice idea Trisha, interesting article too, I would really like an original or two to hang up, still looking.
Embroidery is certainly becoming popular again, and I have taken it up after an extremely long break, my junior school projects were my last attempt.

Looks interesting Trisha. I used to embroider and miss doing it now. May start again.

Jazzy, I am always on the lookout for an old sampler. I have seen some on ebay, but I don't know whether they would be genuine.

That’s something I’ve never done or would know where to start Trisha. I’ve never heard of a Bristol Sampler either. Going to look at your link now.

I've seen plenty on ebay too Trisha, but they are one of those things that I really need to see before I buy.
Have you bought a kit, or are you going to make a design yourself?

Jazzy, I'm not clever enough to design anything. I bought a chart, because I already have lots of evenweave and embroidered silks. It's by a company called Long dog samplers. I will try and post photos as it takes shape. I agree about wanting to see anything before I buy. EBay is a minefield. Trisha

They are certainly lovely samplers Trisha, a lot of work to complete one, a proper work in progress for some time I would think, but then that is what embroidery is all about, doesn't need to be hurried.

Looks good Trisha, it would be nice to see it when it’s done. I’ve also recently started sewing after many years and enjoying it - as long as nothing goes wrong (which it does frequently 😆)

This looks lovely Becky, is it quilted, and by the way, you are allowed to use strong words when things go wrong
