Our council doesn’t collect black plastic so my TRESEMMÉ black shampoo bottles have to be put in the household rubbish. This is something I’ve only just learnt when one of the refuse collectors and I happened to meet. I’ve been putting them out for ever. I wrote to TRESemmé who said they have put a pigment in the black plastic so that it can be ‘seen’ by a machine in the processing factory. I then wrote to my local council to tell them that they should be accepting/collecting these specific empty bottles. The answer was that black plastic can only be made into black plastic bin bags and there is no money in it and that many councils have the same policy as them. Does your council collect black plastic of any kind? Why do TRESemmé have to use black plastic anyway? Their conditioner comes in a white bottle. I’ve gone back to TRESemmé and said that I will not be using their products anymore. Disappointed as I like it but feel strongly on this issue.

With you on this one Gracie - I use Tresemme - the only shampoo/conditioner combi that tames my hair - plus as they are big bottles I am not buying and throwing away bottles every week. At the moment our council are not refusing black plastic, but for how long? I will change when that happens too

Gracie, my sister lives in Sheffield and she used to take all the black plastic to a supermarket which had a special bin. I don't know which supermarket it was. It might be worth asking your local supermarket. She hasn't mentioned it for ages, so perhaps the service is longer available. I have the same issues with the use of Palm oil. Some chocolate manufacturers don't have it in chocolate, but they do in fudge. It's not only in chocolate, it's in loads of other foods.
