I also have a bin in the kitchen for recycling . Mine gets collected every two weeks, alternating with general household stuff. We also have a green bin for garden stuff. We don't have a separate bin for waste food.
Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.
We have a blue bin for paper and cardboard, a green one for plastics, glass and paper, and a brown one for garden waste. These are collected once a month. We also have a grey general rubbish bin that gets taken away every two weeks. Our waste food goes in the compost, if possible.
We get a little green bucket and biodegradable bags for all our food waste. I hate it as sometimes the bags degrade a bit too quickly and you end up with smelly liquid leaking onto the floor. The little buckets are slatted. My MIL who lives in Manchester also gets these but the buckets are whole, no slats, so liquid can't leak out. That would be much better.
When they are full they go into the garden waste. Apparently it's wrong to put food waste straight into the green bin ( garden waste). You have to put them in these bags first. That seems like a rule just for the sake of it.
We have 5 bins. The big black bin, aqua for glass, blue for paper and red for recyclable plastics. There is also the big green bin for food waste. Unfortunately the bin men are under such time pressures, they usually throw the bins back down on the floor, resulting in cracked and broken bins. In the last 12 months we have gone through 4 blue bins for paper. They do offer to take away the old ones, but I hate the fact they don't last long.
