I thought I would start a thread for us to all share our ideas on how to use every scrap of food or share a recipe. I have realised over the last couple of weeks, how much food we wasted or threw out  I have been packing sandwiches for my menfolk to go to work, so that they didn't have to pop in anywhere to buy anything, so with that in mind:- The left over crust ends from the loaves I have been making bread and butter pudding or turning into bread crumbs. Bananas that had gone too far I made a banana tea bread. Bagels looking tired, I drizzled with olive oil and toasted, topping with a chopped tomato/cucumber mix and a bit of grated cheese melted. My fresh meat I have split into smaller packs and mince I have split into 3 lots rather than 2, thinking I can bulk with lentils etc., Let's keep adding our ideas to the pot

Sauces, shampoos etc, turn the bottle upside down at the end and get the last bit out.

Jamie Oliver has got a tv programme on at the moment which they've clearly made in the last week or so as it's about making the most out of what food you've got.

We are looking in fridge at what is nearest its best before date, then planning a meal around it. Last night it was chicken sausages, and tonight I'm making a big lasagne which will do for a couple of days

Our.local farm shop is making up drive in vegetable, salad and fruit boxes, it’s a great idea, a good selection plus you can add extras if you want, I don’t normally buy cabbage but there’s a fine specimen in my box today, so tonight’s dinner was bangers, mash and fried onions, the mash has now been upgraded to colcannon, haven’t had it for years, really looking forward to it

Has anyone got flour? I’ve frozen 3 overripe bananas today but would have made banana bread if I’d had flour. 🙃

No, can't buy any flour at the moment. Only had strong white flour left so used that anyway to make some orange and ginger biscuits.

I have flour  . I have my flour in separate plastic boxes and always have spares in the freezer. I have made a cakes this morning, one for our daughter one for me. She was bringing me some grow bags, I think that I got the best deal. I have also made some bread rolls using a Delia Smith recipe, they were lovely and soft. I recommend the recipe. Next time I need any, I will try one from Hugh F.W's book. Trisha

Sounds wonderful Trisha, Cake and freshly baked rolls and a grow bag!  So glad you are staying isolated, it's absolutely for the best and you are keeping busy and finding lots to do xxx

I’ve got flour, but when I went to the supermarket last week there wasn’t any left on the shelves, I think a lot of us are finding time to bake at the moment

No flour round here unfortunately, OH made a lovely seeded loaf yesterday, but unless we can swap some loo rolls for a bag of strong flour, that's the end of his bread baking for now

Jazzy, the problem with baking is the end product! Someone has to eat it and this means me. Does anyone else eat out of boredom? I keep looking in the fridge, nope nothing different to when I looked 5 minutes ago.  Trisha
