Morrison's have introduced a fish box containing a variety of British fish. I think that they could have been around £10. That looked to be good value. The one that I saw contained lemon sole, sardines, mackerel and gurnod. I'm sure that there was something else. I had walked into town or I would have bought one. Anyone know how to cook gurnod (spent) and a good way to cook sardines. I don't have a barbecue.

I am a bit nervous of cooking fish - I love it when someone else cooks it, but apart from salmon I don't really know the best way to cook it.

Hi Trisha 😀 Sardines can be fried, baked or grilled , personally I would grill them, and Gurnard can be fried, couple of minutes each side, also can be used in a fish pie, fish chowder or fish stew. .

Jazzy, thank you. I hope that they have a fish box in the next time I go out.

I have never heard of Gurnard! Love sardines and whitebait is a favourite too. I hadn’t heard of Gurnard either B, I found the recipe in a Rick Stein book, I too love Sardines and Whitebait, I have never fancied trying Whelks or Oysters though.

Cooked oysters are lovely. Not something I’d try myself but I had Oysters Rockafella in a restaurant a while ago and it was delicious. I don’t like white fish but love all other seafood.
I’ve tried raw oysters and I can’t see what the fuss is about. It was like a lump of seawater.
My son has been to Boston a few times and he sends me pictures of the lobsters they’ve eaten there. I’d love one of those. I know we can get them here but they’re tiny compared to the ones he’s had.

We eat a lot of fish in our house. The kids bought OH a cookery lesson at Billingsgate Market one year and I went too. Bought quite a few fish from the market and brought north in a polystyrene box with ice. We bought a Brill when we were in Southwold a couple of years ago and brought it home. He loves cooking and will try anything. Never had gurnod though Trisha.
