Can I come too? Last Christmas, everyone came to me. I really wanted to spend Christmas on my own, everyone had different ideas. I did consider going away this Christmas, I think that it's too risky this year. My Christmas tree? It's a riot of colour, baubles, bells, tinsel you name it. I have been considering getting a smaller tree this year, the one that I have is over six feet tall and very heavy.

Awww Trisha, would love to spend Christmas with you Families are great but sometimes doing your own thing seems very appealing.
I'm going to dig around in my photos and see if I can find one I took last year. Did you ever photograph yours Trisha, it would be fun to see everyones

What do you do Linda when you have the one to yourselves. Do you find it more relaxing?

Funny that we should be talking about Christmas! Our daughter said yesterday that she had pantomime tickets for Halloween and Christmas eve. She also asked if I would go to theirs for Christmas! I said that it was tooooo early to be talking about Christmas.

That's really nice Linda, no pressure
Isn't it crazy that you have to book so way ahead for pantomime tickets and if you intend eating out for Christmas Lunch! yes it does seem early but I think talking about it, gives us that fuzzy feeling after all these strange times.
I know you adore your family Trisha but what do you think you'd like to do this year? Is there a neighbor who has no family at all who would like to have lunch with someone?

We used to do that but now my dad is on his own I feel I just can’t leave him on his own. So last year the lovely relaxing Christmases had to stop.

It's really hard Magggzz to say goodbye to the Christmases you hold dear. Things are changing rapidly in my life too. When I first came to this forum, I still had a house full of kids every Christmas, even though some of them were big kids. All change now with them growing and doing their own thing so far away. I refuse to be melancholy or sad over it though. I think it's what you can make it, whoever you are with or even if you chose to spend it alone
Can the in-laws help this year Magggzz?

I really hope so. I’m sure they’ll have him to stay again if they can. My dad and my FIL are both 90 and MIL is 87 although she’s very fit for her age.
Thing is at that age it’s difficult to make plans too far in advance as anything can happen. I think of my dad as old but I keep forgetting he has an older sister. She’s in a nursing home in Scotland and doesn’t know what day it is. I think he’d like to see her but he’s not really up to all that travel and it’s a long way to go for someone not to know who you are. Her husband died a few years ago and they had no children.

Another question Mags is do they get on well together, you know, have stuff to chat about?

They seem to get on fine. They always have. My MIL phones my dad two or three times a week. FIL is losing the plot a bit now and doesn’t really have much conversation so they both get a nice chat out of it.
My dad is from Manchester as well and they were brought up fairly close to each other so it gives them plenty to reminisce about.
