We’ve lived at the seaside for nearly 14 years. And we’ve always picked up bits and pieces of seaglass, which I’ve then sent on to people or just left in a big vase.
But it’s actually a worldwide thing, and in the next town, there is one of the more famous seaglass beaches! People come from all over the world to spend the day looking for that ultimate, rare piece!
And I found one haha! I’ve since had it made into a necklace and it really is stunning, but that’s what a lot of people now do, they find seaglass and make/sell it as jewellery, if you google it you will find some beautiful pieces.
The most common colours of glass found are white, green and then brown, but there are different shades that come from different kinds of glass objects. And then there are the rarer colours, like red, blue, pink, purple, and milk glass and then there are the ultra rare pieces like radium glass (that glows in the dark under UV light) and multis, pieces of glass from decorative vases with multiple colours running through them. A multi is the one I had made into a necklace, it’s nearly about as big as my thumb nail, and is reportedly from a vase made by a local glassmaker from 100 years ago.
For anyone who’s also into this, the beach is in Seaham, just south of where I live, and every time I go, there’s other people there seaglass hunting.
For the kids, we tell them the pieces are mermaid tears!

Oh my goodness, I’m on my way Peppersmum. I have been collecting sea glass for a number of years now. I found some and wondered what it was, very dark coloured, googled and discovered it could be a pirate’s bottle. That got me interested and I’ve collected ever since. I have found several pieces of blue but most is shades of green, brown, white. And I’ve found some pottery too that has been tumbled through the years. Are you in lockdown 😂 ?

We are in a sort of mini lockdown, insofar as we aren’t supposed to have more than six people in a group. The panic buying has started again up here though, and I’m still working, as is my other half and my daughter.
Pirate glass is fab, it looks like a black pebble until you shine a torch though it and you see its colours. I’ve jays bought myself a waterproof torch with a UV setting to take with me as I’m sure I miss more than I collect.

I spent some time at Seaham recently. Guess what we were looking for, seaglass! Our little one was running in and out of the sea, it was freezing. Our daughter has a friend in America, he was absolutely thrilled when she sent him some.

That sounds like a perfect day out. We are due to be going on our delayed holiday on Saturday to Norfolk - I wonder if I will find any there?

Happy holidays VW, you're sure to find some in Norfolk, think they have some beautiful sandy beaches but also some shingle ones too

In was their with girlie and her new man the other evening, in the rain. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hubs won’t let me go alone in the evening as it’s a twenty minute car journey through Sunderland first, so I had an entourage haha. Did I tell you about girlie’s new man? Oh he’s lovely.

We went for a walk on a beach on the Wirral on Friday. I found glass but most was new and hadn’t been tumbled in the waves to get that lovely frosted appearance although I did find 2 tiny bits of green that went in my pocket. My OH spotted a skates egg case so I brought that home too.

I'm hoping for some me-time this weekend. Hubs always wants to go out shopping etc and really doesn't mind where we end up as long as we're together - but he's starting to complain about feeling the cold etc - he is 63 after all, but sometimes I really don't want to spend the day tripping around on the metro going to five different towns drinking coffee and lugging bags. I get that we are lucky to still be "in love" after 25 years of marriage and as he spends all week stuck in an office, it's nice to get out.
But I spend all week in a hot sweaty busy kitchen and sometimes need some down time at the weekend where I can get my things done, like shutting myself away in the office writing/crafting or baking, studying, etc.
Sorry, went off at a tangent there - anyways, as he's off for some tattoo work on Saturday, I'm taking myself off to Seaham beach on the trail of some stunning glass! I have a new hand rake to save my fingers, wireless earphones, bag, camera, flask of tea, and UV torch (for glow in the dark glass).
Knowing my luck, I'll fall in the surf and be piss wet through in an hour!

Haha happy sea glass hunting. We found one tiny piece of a bluey//white piece. Picked up lots of amber coloured stones but don’t know if they are amber or coloured stones lol. Very pretty though
