On Friday the landline rang and it was a recorded message along the lines of
Hello we have been trying to contact you about your internet service. There has been illegal activity on your line and we will disconnect you within 24 to 48 hours. Press one if you wish to speak to an internet advisor.
I hung up.
Saturday morning at
08.09 call from 0621733755
09.32 call from 0229271655
09.56 call from 07405441851
10.08 call registered as 0 ( didn’t pickup phone on that occasion)
10.50 call from 08211726678
all had the same message as received on Friday!
The woman who recorded the message should be ashamed of herself. No one can possibly believe that message was genuine when recording it! It makes me so angry that there are people out there being conned out of money by these calls. And that there seems to be no one to report them to or anyone to be able to stop them.
I’m always getting calls telling me about the car accident I had that wasn’t my fault. I usually let them get as far as the word car before I cut them off and block the caller. I’ve been getting the same call about twice a week for maybe a year now.
Not quite as intense as you went through but still very annoying. If it wasn’t for hospitals etc I just wouldn’t answer a call if I didn’t know the number but very occasionally it’s been a real call.
I have had on several occasions an automated message from "BT" saying there has been a problem with my internet service and will be cut off in 48hrs and to press 1 to be put through to an engineer, who will make an appointment with you. I hang up.
I had another yesterday from a gentleman saying he was calling from "BT" about a reported security breach on my internet and would help me by transferring me to an engineer, I told him I didn't have internet and hung up.
The other recurring one we have is an automated message from "Amazon Prime" saying my Prime account payment is due and to ring this number and pay £70 something pounds for the year. I hang up, I pay my Amazon Prime account monthly by DD, so know its a spoof.
Used to get the ones calling from "windows" which always made me laugh, windows is a program, not a company Depending on mood I'm in, I'll ask them to repeatedly speak up as I can't hear them until they get bored and hang up on me instead.
It's ridiculous, when does BT ever genuinely call anyone about a fault, they wait for you to report it yourself.
Who would work for people like this? it is shameful, especially if they get through to someone who doesn't realise it's a scam.
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.
When I get a strange number coming up on my landline, I never pick up. I do, however, look on line at Who called me '. Just recently I am getting calls on my mobile. They ring for about 3 seconds. I only find out when I get a missed call message. I just delete.
Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.
I tell them I’ll just get my Mummy and leave them hanging 😄 seriously though, when my older sisters husband had just passed away she fell for a ‘windows’ scam and paid out £600 - if she hadn’t just lost her husband she would never have fallen for it 😟
Last Wednesday my OH made the mistake of answering an unrecognised number, it was supposedly from Amazon Prime, a computer generated voice rather than a human so he just swore rudely and hung up. After that, we had 8 more calls - yes 8 - during the afternoon! All from different numbers but we let them all go to answerphone and none of them left a message, clearly by picking up the first call it had indicated we would potentially answer - lesson learned, don't answer unless you recognise the number. We've not had any since then. During lockdown we hardly had any of these calls but unfortunately they seem to be on the increase now the scammers are back at work.
Mum who is 90 gets several of these daily even though she is registered with the TPS. Recently they say they are from the Inland Revenue and she will be arrested if she doesn’t pay X amount. Luckily she’s not taken in them.
