(I hope it is Ok to post this),
I have recently come across the new Booking.com app for mobiles.
We do like to get away for a few days every now and then, my normal way of searching for hotels is to source what's available on booking.com and then look on the hotel's website to compare prices. I definitely book direct with the hotel if it is a small independent, if it is a chain I will try and book direct with the hotel as long as they offer me the lowest rate.
Booking.com charge 15% to companies who use their site for reservations, so the chains are still benefitting by offering the lowest rate available direct.
Well, the booking.com techie geeks have realised that over 80% of their bookings come from people using their mobiles. Therefore they are encouraging their providers to offer extra low rates to people who make reservations by downloading the b.com app and booking via their smartphone.
With b.com you get a 'Genius' discount the more you use them, which is between 10 and 15%, that discount will be transferred to your mobile account, and the accommodation providers discount is added on top. It is the accommodation providers who decide how much discount to offer, not b.com. When you search using your mobile phone, you will see a green tag by the hotels offering special deals, which says 'mobile prices only'
We are off to Harrogate soon, I downloaded the app to give it a go. As well as my 15% Genius discount, the hotel I liked the look of offered another £ 105 discount for a three night stay, ie £ 35 a night....brilliant.
