What does Living Small mean.
It's not necessarily to do with the size of house you live in. It can mean different things to different people. On a blog I recently read it echoed some of the things I felt too.
Living below your means - this is my favourite nothing worse than being in debt and worrying about money.
Less possessions - freeing up your spaces by passing on all those things you've kept over the years (which you don't need) keeping the things that mean something special and displaying them
Growing food in the smallest of gardens - vertically
Spending less money by re using other peoples things they are giving away
Cook once for 2 days, saving you time and energy.
Using the car less, encourages exercise and saves on fuel.
I've found that living small doesn't mean going without at all, it makes you think more about what you are doing, spending your money on and what you really need.
The less you spend on consumerism, the more money you have for experiences that have lasting memories(like a holiday). is something someone said that made sense.
I was thinking recently about how much the average household spends on mobile phone packages and entertainment packages etc (subscriptions for steaming services) and how clever the advertising over the years has been to draw people into spending a lot of money in this way, outgoings of this nature must be huge for many households. We've tried to be savvy with this by having Amazon Prime and getting free movies to watch as part of that deal and one of my kids has Netflix which we share the password for, rather than all of us having a separate account.
There are great sites now like Vinted, gumtree, sphock, Marketplace and freecycle which are brilliant for upcyclers and money savvy people.
It's for every age, I find young people are very imaginative these days and have not already got burdened down with a life time of possessions, already they are thinking of the planet and living simpler lives from the start.
Who else likes to upcycle, save money and live below their means?
Just about to turn an old cot (which I got off marketplace) into a garden bench for next year. You can use a cot for a small indoor sofa, garden bench or porch swing, like these...
