Clarkson is now claiming that his Sun column re wanting to see Meagain stripped naked and publicly shamed Game of Thrones style was a joke
The trouble for Clarkson though is that this column caused a ferocious Twitter storm, and prompted a record number of complaints, 60 MPs wrote to the Sun saying serious action should be taken against him, some of the Twitterati said he should be locked up. Amazon and ITV have cancelled his programmes, pubs don't want to sell his beer. In desperation he issued a second grovelling apology to the Sussexes, which they still refused to accept.
I dislike the man intensely, he is not funny, he is not clever, he is a total misogynist, a bully and has no talent whatsoever. I cannot stand to watch any programme he is in.
The question that I would pose though is what has happened to our traditional liberal attitude towards free speech? In the words of Voltaire...' I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it'...shouldn't that be the code society lives by?
Maybe the woke brigade would rather live by the slogan 'I know I will hate what you say and will fight to the death of free speech for my right to stop you saying it'
Free speech includes the right to offend whether it is aimed at Clarkson, the Sussexes or anyone else.
Many of H&M's 'truths' and claims, when examined closely, are total fabrication or even worse, direct 'untruths', and have also caused widespread offence, they are just as obnoxious, arrogant and unsavoury as Clarkson, they deserve each other.
Interestingly enough, Clarkson wrote that column the day after a special lunch with Camilla, attended by her 'close' chums...bit of a shock that he was included!
