Yes, we save cards for tags, bags and larger wrapping paper.
When I was a kid all wrapping paper was saved, and I mean ALL, for sellotape had to be cut through, you never tore paper. I actually remember it very fondly, the old paper had a very soft feel to it, almost silk like.

I tend to put mine out with the cardboard recycling but this year will make some tags as I ran out. My daughter used plain brown paper for her wrapping which with pretty ribbon looked lovely with her home made tags.
Cards that I particularly like I keep and put up again the following year, sort of decoration. Some I make gift tags from and others go to the recycle bin, not that we get that many. A lot of people are sending e cards, which isn't as fun.
