My German sis-in-law who is staying with me brought up table etiquette yesterday after her husband left a tiny bit of toast at breakfast. I looked up what it meant to leave food on your plate and saw the 5:25 rule. I have not come across this before. My SIL says in Germany it is the 4:20 rule. Were you taught this rule or like me, confused?
I didn't know it was called anything in particular, but is it that it's good manners to leave something on the plate so that your host knows they have fed you well, rather than clear the plate and your host feels you may still be hungry and they haven't given enough food?
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.
