I bought new bath & hand towels not long ago to replace some old ones which were past their best, but really quickly they've become scratchy. I use eco-eggs rather than regular detergent, don't add fabric softener (as I've read that makes the issue worse ironically!), I've tried putting some vinegar in the wash and I have air-dried them (to avoid running up the bills using my tumble drier) but they still aren't nice and soft (they were gorgeous a few months back when I bought them!).
I’m told a few minutes in the tumble dryer with an ice cube does the trick.
I’ve not actually tried this but I dry mine outside or over a clothes horse but then I put them in the dryer just for a minute. It does seem to fluff them up a bit. Mine are far from perfect but I think it helps a bit without he huge cost of a full dry.
Sadly I have no advice to offer as I have never achieved this. I am told purely tumble drying them from wet does the trick, but I am too petrified to try due to cost.
I put some in the tumbler drier for about 5 minutes then pegged them out. They felt fluffed up when I pegged out and stayed fluffed up. The last lot I just pegged straight out and gave a good shake. Got the hard, scratchy feel!
Yes absolutely Moi. I prefer a hard scatchy towel, they dry you better and an added bonus....they are a good exfoliator. I don't tumble dry or use fabric conditioner, just wash, then on the line
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.
