-7 here too, very unusual for it to get that cold in the Home Counties. Heating is on so nice and warm indoors - trying not to think about the gas & electric bill!
I have completely changed my shopping habits since my post in September. I no longer do a weekly shop at Tesco, I have switched to Lidl - something I never thought I'd do, but I love it. The store is much smaller so it's easier to find things, the quality of their food has been surprising good - especially their Christmas food (some very tasty Amaretto mince pies come to mind ... and hips!).
I am saving so much money on my weekly shop but not compromising on quality. Sometimes they don't have the particular item I want, which is a nuisance, but the quality of their fruit & veg is really good and so is the meat/poultry.
My kids think it's hilarious because I was always a bit snobby about value supermarkets, but now I'm hooked!
Love Story - saw that film when I was about 14 and thought it was so romantic .... especially liked Ryan O'Neal who died just before Christmas, so handsome!
Happy birthday to Michelle Obama, an inspirational First Lady.
Vidal Sassoon, a great example of someone who rose from poverty to becoming hairdresser to the rich and famous and a household name.
Alcohol Prohibition .... I hope they never introduce that in this country
The British Museum is good, but in my humble opinion the Elgin Marbles should be back in Greece. There's probably loads of other artefacts in there which by rights should've been returned to the countries from where they were plundered.
Theresa May is the MP for the constituency where my father lives - he really liked her as an MP, until she became Prime Minister .... he went off her very quickly then. Often the way isn't it, someone is good in their role but when over-promoted their flaws quickly show.
Gaddafi apparently had a lot of flatulence, I remember reading an article by a journalist who had interviewed him and apparently he trumped all the way through it
Loved the film Bonnie & Clyde starring Faye Dunaway & Warren Beatty - apparently he wasn't sure she was right for the role initially, but it turned out to be a great success.
Lisa Marie Presley was one of those shocking deaths of a well known person who from the outside looked to have it all, but beneath the veneer things were clearly not as they appeared and she had 4 partners (including Michael Jackson & Nicolas Cage) but none of them lasted very long - she had opioid addiction and complications from bariatric surgery were responsible for her death at 54 (although her father had died at 42) - must've been very sad for her family.
The earthquake in Haiti was dreadful, so many lives lost - nature can be so cruel.
Yes, 4 years .... and we still don't really know how/why it started, probably never will unfortunately.
What a brave woman Amelia Earhart was, and was only 39 when her plane disappeared ..... can't help but wonder what her further achievements would've been if she hadn't perished in the plane crash.
131 today - it takes a bit of getting used to being able to use the same letter more than once, but I am so pleased you introduced me to this puzzle RTG!
So it's Kate's birthday ..... what would you buy her if you had to get her a present?
Simone Lucie Ernestine Marie Bertrand de Beauvoir - I had never heard of her, but I think she has the most brilliant name I have ever seen - bet it was difficult to cram that in on forms
Started some cupboard clearing today - went through the big food cupboard, found a tin of pineapple rings which were Use By February 2020 - they'd probably have still be ok but since we have never eaten them (and I am not a pineapple fan!) I decided it was time to part ways.
So satisfying to open the cupboard door and see everything tidy and not shoved in higgledy piggledy
