I'm totally rubbish at learning languages and my boys obviously take after me much to the disappointment of my OH who speaks fluent German and almost fluent French. He doesn't use it now and hasn't for a long time apart from recently when an old friend called from Germany. He found he was still able to converse with him using a mixture of both languages. OS is hoping to learn Chinese but so far we've got as far as Nee how (hello) and shei shei (Thank you)
My basic level of Mandarin - nee = you how = OK? Basic Arabic, Basic Malay & once house is sold & we downsize I am also going to be learning Mandarin, properly!
It's for a Chrismas get together meal in a cosy pub with girlfriends. I was thinking of wearing black ankle boots with it (they have a heel of about 3"). Do you think a knitted dress is ok for this type of occasion? Would you wear ankle boots with it, I have suede Mary Jane shoes in dark red colour? What kind of tights would you wear? I was thinking of just nude colour tights as a contrast but also have thick navy or black ones too...
I've put a fair bit of weight on lately and seem to have lost my confidence in making decisions regarding what to wear! :-/
Love the dress Beckyboo - love Bellatrix's & everyones suggestions. Just add my 2p worth - jangly earrings. Knock em dead and have a super time.
What made me run my car on cooking oil that was 25-30p per litre cheaper??
I really don't remember now. ;)
Seriously, it is not even illegal. You only have to pay extra duty if you do over 50,000 miles per annum
Presume it was necessary to do something to the car to accommodate using cooking oil instead of diesel - this is very interesting - it may be the way to go very soon. Don't know whether you ladies have noticed of whether it is because I am so tight fisted BUT currently the price of crude is US$45/barrell but the price at the pumps is the same as it was when it was US$100+/barrell.
Hi Lin, Is this the one otherwise known as sweet wormwood? You grow this yourself? Can you explain how much you use to make your tea and is it just the one cup every night:)
Sorry I missed your post until now. Yes, sweet wormwood and yes home grown outside in the garden. Can't upload my picture - too big I'll try to find a picture on the web that looks like mine and attach it.
125g mainly leaf I tend to keep away from the more solid stalk. Hot water, as you would for making a cuppa 2 mugs full, stir & leave to stand until you & OH drink it in the evening = 1 mug each Tastes foul but you get used to it.
You are 100% right Bellatrix the UK's mistake was not saying if you want to live in this country you abide by the laws of the land and you accept that the UK is a Christian country. You can practise your own religion by all means as do the jews, buddhists, hinddus et al nor will you get special treatment because you are a muslim. I think the UK can learn from Japan & Australia. Incidentally there apparently is nothing in the Koran that says that muslim women must wear a burka. Motorcycle riders must remove their helmets when entering a bank so why should a burka be allowed. We lived in Saudi Arabia from 1973 thru 1988 & the ladies wore a black cloak & a head covering but not a burka and they never insisted that I wear a cloak or cover my head when I was visiting with them or going out with them. I think the mullers in ths mosques are the main problem - they interpret the Koran to suit. When it suits they want Sharia law. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Cut off the right hand if you are caught stealing and stone adulterers to death! Barbaric here but still practised in some parts of the Middle East.
I forgot one important fact. When in Saudi we were NEVER allowed to photograph people, we could photograph bldgs, etc., anything not living. I was very surprised to see on Sky the other evening a young very pretty Muslim young lady wearing a head scarf but happily willing to be televised! Also Jehadi John was happy to be photographed before his death. Double standards or something else?

Surely you mean hope she doesn't become next leader!
No, they need a right wing government that will take them out of the EU otherwise I see France joining Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain et al going txxts up and Germany having to support them & quite honestly I can't see the Germans accepting that can you? You have to ask yourself why Switzerland has declined to be part of the EU.
Never used a pressure cooker. Why do you need a pressure cooker to make soup, sorry, I need educating! I make soup using mainly veggies then liquidise and freeze in 2-portion containers w/lids, around 5 litres at a time, i.e. use the saucepan twice.
Marmite is made in this country with I understand British products so why does the drop in sterling worry them? If anything selling marmite for export would be in their favour unless they are saying that the cost of fuel/energy has gone up? I am a scrooge and buy Tesco own brands where possible, why pay more for a brand name when the quality is very similar, if not the same? I am not a tea connoisseur and my palate says Tesco own is stronger & better than some of the branded teas at half the price.
So am I sambuca. I belong to the local library and it gives me access to loads of books. In return I have been helping a group of ladies learn how to use the internet and how to join forums and meet online friends. Hopefully this will stop them feeling so lonely and left out in the cold. MH says it is because I am such a busybody I like getting involved in people's lives, but hey, if you can help someone why not?
I have read that outdoor drying, is a very good source of anti bacterial rays directly from the sun
That might be so, however my daughter has an NHS uniform which we have to wash at 60 degrees, separately from all other washing, and it has to be tumble dried rather than hung on the line (apparently to avoid any contamination with pollutants - for the same reason she can't travel in to work wearing it, she has to change into it when she arrives) .... the trousers are black & top white, so they have to be washed separately .... unfortunately she's only a student at present so doesn't get a salary, but I think when she qualifies she may get a tax break to cover laundering her uniform, in the meantime it's down to the Bank of Mum & Dad to subsidise it!
Your daughter should be sent around all the hospitals here in Wales. My hubby was on his way to see me after I had surgery in Oct 2013 and he watched a nurse get into a car carrying a jack russell, plonk it on the front seat next to the gentleman driving the car and when she reached Nevill Hall Hosp, Abergavenny, she got out, cuddled the dog and walked in, presumably to do her shift - she was in her nurses kit! Frightening. However, after staying one night on the ward I decided I would discharge myself as the hygeine standards on the ward was terrible. The sister stripped the bed next to mine then proceeded to use a large cloth to wipe down the mattress & pillows (plastic covered), then with the same cloth wiped the bedside table, the table and the bed frame. When we were processing rainbow trout for Tesco we had to meet BRC standards and using one cleaning cloth for everything would have got us struck off!!
I did wonder why the post Pyjamas was in Crafts and Hobbies VW. So I am now waiting in awe as this has to be seen to be believed :)
Thought I was dotty about my monsters. They each have big puffy beds with a padded liner in it and then I also put a piece of 'VetBed' for them to sleep on too. It is expensive but worth it as it dries so quickly after washing.
This is the idea I'm aiming for - however as I don't have a pattern it is anyones guess what they will actually end up like lol
If I had to attempt to make it I would lie Fred down & trace around him. Good luck & keep the pattern.
