So far today, I have washed, pegged out and dried clothes. Walked the dogs. Hoovered. Made lunch. Mowed the lawn. Now standing ironing clothes or more to the point mens cotton underpants, thinking surely I was destined for better things in life than this!
I actually get very little satisfaction out of keeping a house clean, infact I would go as far to say that my house is tidy, but not spit spot and spanking.
I cannot believe that I have offered my services to a friend tomorrow to help clean her new home before she moves in, when I struggle to do my own.
I hate doing housework. I am blessed, my husband mucks in. I do low level & he does windows & above eye level. We hoover once a week & mop floors every 3-4 days. I do laundry whenever I know it is going to be sunny and all our clothes are non-iron US cotton shirts, t-shirts, jeans. All bedding is changed every week & towels twice a week but all washed in one big wash day, usually a Sunday. There is so much more to life than keeping a house clean don't you think??
We used to have an Eritrean maid in Saudi and I wish I had brought Fana back with us. She was with us when the kids were born in Saudi in 1973 & 1975 and looked after us all until we left in 1986. I still keep in touch with her & she has visited our son in Australia once and our daughter in Holland half a dozen times where we met up with her.
How about Thomasina Miers everyone. She was winner of Masterchef in 2005 and owner of Wahaca (Mexican food) plus a couple of others that I can't name. Read: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8609232.stm
Hi Lin, Is this the one otherwise known as sweet wormwood? You grow this yourself? Can you explain how much you use to make your tea and is it just the one cup every night:)
Yes, it is sweet wormwood. We harvest the crop in the autumn, strip all the fronds, chop them in a food mixer and freeze them in plastic bags around 125g per bag & pop them all in the freezer. To make the tea for OH & myself I pop one bag into a jug & add 2 mugs of hot water (just off the boil), stir, cover and leave it to infuse until needed in the evening. Warning: it is an acquired taste - we just swig it like medicine! We only drink one cup each night Mons to Fris & take Sats & Suns off. We take a break because our sleep pattern is great & OH's aches & pains are all but gone even when the weather changes. You need to adjust how much you drink according to your own needs it is a natural herb. We have a Chinese acupuncturist who OH went to see prior to starting drinking artemisia annua tea and Yan told him that he would not need to come to see her again - she was right & we have given her some plants for her to use as well. There is so much on the web, just read as much as you can.
Last Edit: Nov 1, 2016 15:20:19 GMT by Lin: should have been 125g - APOLOGIES - I seem to have double up on the posts.
Now that the old site has closed the womensthoughts.co.uk address has moved to this new forum. So you can google Womens Thoughts and it will link you to here, which is possibly why the old link does not work 6herry. Thanks for letting us know as it helps to be able to keep in touch with some members who haven't read the old closure notice and inform them of the change.
We apologise for this upheaval, but hopefully all will settle down in a few weeks and as Amber Spyglass has mentioned, we will be promoting the new forum via Face Book /Twitter and also on the Pro Boards forums.
We will still be offering competitions and offers and if any members know of any on-line competitions, then please share and we can promote those also.
Perhaps PM would like to offer her latest novel as a first Book Giveaway to the new WT :) ?
Whoever is responsible for this new site - I think you've all done a sterling job. It is very easy to navigate and work out what to do.
My job is very effective at giving people bad backs. So, I exercise my back every day, thus I rarely get back aches, and I almost never get back pains.
If he is prone to back pains, he ought to be looking at prevention techniques.
I'm very curious 6herry - what do you do? MH suffers from joint ache brought on by the change in the weather but now that we drink my artemisia annua tea (home grown) every night this problem is slowly but surely going away. The Chinese have been using this herb for ages.
I have a friend from Belgium on another forum. He claims british doctors are paid lots more in england than they are in most eu contries, and we would be flooded if the need to speak fluent english was not a basic requirement
Our son & DIL are working in Oz.He says that the Medical fraternity in Australia have told the British doctors not to even think of applying in Oz. Apparently they have a very bad reputation in Oz, NZ , Spore, Malaysia and Philippines of being lazy and greedy, as mentioned in your post. The German, Filippino & Malaysian junior doctors I have worked alongside here were dedicated to their patients and never once complained about the extended hours they sometimes had to do. As far as they were concerned they were learning. I think if one wants to be a doctor then before they are accepted into a uni they should go through a phsychological test to show they have the aptitude to be a doctor, they should then work as a hospital porter for one year and if at the end of that period they still want to be doctors then their medical training should be FOC and when they qualify they sign on for 5 years to work in the NHS. This will sort out the wheat from the chaff (? word??).
Like 6herry I worked with 2 teams as a Medical Secretary way back in 1992-1996 when I moved to Wales. My main boss was the Surgical Director (Burns specialist) and 2nd boss was Head of Plastic Surgery. The Registrars were very hard working and excellent, the SHOs were a total mixture. The Burns Consultant & the Plastic Surgery Consultants worked very closely together and were dedicated to their patients but the junior doctors were on the whole as described by 6sherry. The hypocratic oath does not mean squat to the majority. I agree that Jeremy Hunt needs to get his act together. If Tesco and our local petrol station can run a 7day service why can't the NHS? I would suggest that they start fresh at the top and bring in Eddie Stobart levels of competence management who provide value for money rather than the incessant deaths due to incompetent management scandals we currently see.
I would miss Mary, I think she is sweet and gives the programme a real feel good factor, so wise, I honestly would not miss Mel and Sue, they were the reason I stopped making an effort to sit down earlier in the evening, I find their input so corny and intrusive. I think they will easily find new recruits, Nadiya, springs to mind, she is so popular, and many of the previous winners might be in the running.
Jazzy - I thought I was the only one who was happy to see Mel & Sue choose to depart when the programme moves but I sincerely hope that Mary & Paul do move.
Oh dear, that needs deep thought, but ...I rather think the UK never really fully joined the idea of the E.C -for instance, you kept your money and didn't change for euro. I 'm really not qualified , but sure we are in a serious economic mess. And I rather think some of the latest countries admitted in the Union are a burden. Another thing is that , for instance, Brussels 'instructions concerning agriculture and cattle farming, for instance are just sentencing a lot of farms to brankrupcy. And a friend of mines, manager at the Ministry of Economy and Finances tells in confidence we are could in a near future have the same financial problems as Greece or Spain, or what else ? So, maybe "leaving" was a good idea ...
Great to read such an honest assessment. I think you are absolutely correct, France can only hope that Marine La Pen becomes your leader otherwise France will be bankrupt very soon. Our daughter is married to a Dutchman and they think that once the UK is out there might be a ground swell of other countries thinking seriously of leaving. Our son lives and works in Australia and he told us that Australia is very pro UK, as is NZ. I am originally from Singapore and my friends in the Min of Fin & Trade there say that being in or out of the EU for the UK & them makes no difference at all.
